Genre: Vertical 2D Brawler / Roguelite Developer: Tahoe Games Platform: Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, PC Release: 20.05.2021
From the body of the fallen angel Lucifer a huge tree protrudes. He serves as a prison in which the armies of hell wait for the resurrection of their prince. The three main characters of Rising Hell, however, is mighty against the line. They snatch their shackles shortly and contact the hosts.
Entertaining retro clop for in between
Rising Hell offers from the first second rectilinear beating and baller action. At the beginning, only the warrior Arok is available to us, with him we go exclusively in the melee. Later, there are two fangefaced characters for fanged ways, rising bright then feels more like Mega Man or Contra.
A steep learning curve that immediately grips: The entry into rising bright is not so easy. Opponents share properly and we have to get used to the game system. As in Devil May Cry, we collect red orbs that serve as a currency for so-called "talents". These lend, among other things, better resistance or let us share more damage. Specializing in a certain upgrade type, the game becomes much easier.
Lots of stuff to unlock: We also receive experience points that increase our general rank. This not only expands the pool to talents, but also free "relics" free, which lend us additional bonuses at the beginning of a run, such as a more powerful starting weapon.
Did we incorporate ourselves, the game goes swiftly from the hand. The tempo can increase properly, the characters react beautifully dynamic. There is also a flotter Air Dash and the so-called "Hellbreak". If we hop in the best Super-Mario manner on the heads of our enemies, they will be done immediately and we get a boost up.
Chic animations and a great soundtrack
Rising bright offers gloomy pixel art that can be seen. If you could not know it better, you might think that the game appeared for the Sega Megadrive or the NeoGeo. Only offers all the conveniences today, such as a consistently high frame rate and online leaderboards.
Info: This article will appear as part of our 'Road to Gamescom 2021', in which we introduce you to the start of the game fair on August 25 games from the Indie Arena Booth. So far:
- Harmony's Odyssey: Only stimulus flooding, then sweet puzzle fun
Heavy Metal Riffs Meeting on Midi Organs: Melodic snapping between kitsch and dating basses fit perfectly for uncompromising brawl on the screen. Instruments seemed to be wonderfully compressed, it is consistently resorted to Simple MIDI effects.
The targeted video player of the early 90s is thus well transported. Also, the sounds in the game fit to the OLD-School flair. Rising bright is very priced therefore, acoustic hit feedback helps the overview. An impression of the soundtrack gets you here in the trailer:
Short and crisp for the narrow purse
Rising bright is truly no extinction monster, but beats only with just under 9 €. We broke ourselves through three worlds, which visually looks very different from each other and are connected by a general theme, namely the ramifications and wood structures of the tree.
The runs are primarily different in that the levels are reimbursed with each attempt. Some combinations are available, you spend a few hours in rising bright, you can recognize this quickly.
Within a few minutes you are through: Let us leave the upscale but easily to master difficulty times out, you can do any game world in about eight minutes. When the end boss is laid, the degree of difficulty can be lifted, go to highscore hunting or we try to challenges.
The latter transform the gameplay a bit, so we have to complete a world within a narrow timeline or lean through with falling pepper.
Chris Werian @Drchrisrespect The entry into Rising was not so easy for me. Nothing is explained, mechanics for advanced advanced are swept under the carpet and have to be discovered. But that also fits the Arcade flair of the game, after all, this approach was typical of the time. With each newly discovered feature you get better, after a few hours, the campaign can be easily completed. Rising Bright offers a great flow, it's simply fun to plow yourself through the lease. After about five hours I was with the campaign, another five hours later, then all trophies have been ranked in the profile. You're going to go straight, you are not familiar with the genre, but you can also beat a few hours. Do you have a few insider tips for retro fans?
